At The Firm…

The CCMI Team welcomed clients and friends of the firm to our Open House and Gathering for Good event.  Guests were asked to assist in giving back to the community at the event by putting together the following items:

  • Hygiene kits for Serving Seniors (a local non-profit focused on serving low-income seniors),
  • Dog adoption kits for Helen Woodward Animal Center
  • College supply kits for Reality Changers (a local non-profit focused on creating first generation college students)

The team and guests had a great time socializing and assembling supplies for local non-profits.  If you weren’t able to make it, we look forward to showing off the remodeled office when you join us for your next meeting!

Brian attended an event put on by Dimensional Fund Advisors about Delivering Superior Client Experiences.  CCMI is always looking for ways to improve and get better for our clients.

Brian and Matt Ryan spent a morning at a local business presenting information about an employee stock ownership plan that was recently acquired by a larger company.  The presentation focused on what will happen for the employees and what they should do with their expected windfall.

Matt Showley and Matt Ryan attended a local San Diego County Estate Planning meeting where they listened in on an experienced panel of experts on exit planning for business owners. The evening focused specifically on exit planning for professional firms.

Matt Showley and Kim attended an excellent two-day conference in San Francisco where they heard speakers discuss the current state of the economy, trends in the financial services industry, college funding and student loan strategies, as well as a number of financial planning related sessions.

The CCMI team continues to implement our new financial planning software with various team members attending training throughout the month of May.  We are excited about the capabilities that it provides and the more dynamic, in-person changes to planning that are available.

Brian volunteered to be on a career panel at Monarch School which is a school specific to educating youth impacted by homelessness.  The program was put on by the Creating First Impressions non-profit which helps facilitate the program by teaching disadvantaged youth life skills and career planning.  Brian enjoyed the day sharing experiences from his work life and lessons learned in a work environment.

Kim’s final LEAD Impact class took place in Tijuana, Mexico learning about the deep economic and cultural linkages of the San Diego -Tijuana mega region. Kim got to tour a factory of a US based company, hear from environmental conservationist working on challenges of the Tijuana River Valley that flows to the US side of the border, and listened to various speakers about the benefits and challenges that come from an economic region spanning an international border.

On The Homefront…

Matt Ryan and his new wife Jess took a quick weekend trip to Colorado Springs to visit some of their friends. There was a total of 4 couples on the trip so there was never a dull moment in the house they all shared. The group went on multiple hikes and ate great food the entire weekend.  Matt and Jess flew home late on a Sunday evening after their delayed flight. The CCMI team likes to give Matt a hard time because his flights always seem to be delayed.

Brian continues to coach baseball and his son’s team is still in the winners bracket in the Tournament of Champions.  Brian and family also enjoyed traveling to Orange County to celebrate Brian’s grandparents 70th Wedding Anniversary.  For all of your statistics fans, less than 0.1% of all people make it to their 70th anniversary so it was quite an accomplishment to celebrate!

Katie and Ben wrapped up the lacrosse season this month. Although they are happy to have their evenings back, they will miss working with the girls. Katie’s team went 14-6 this season and scored the most goals in the program’s history. It was a fantastic season and it made all of the late nights worth it. At the completion of the season, Katie and Ben vacationed in Vancouver, Canada.  They thoroughly enjoyed their time exploring the city, eating delicious food, and hiking through Vancouver’s many parks. Katie’s favorite part of the trip was hiking Grouse Mountain, completing the infamous “Grouse Grind.”

Matt Showley and his family returned from Hawaii at the beginning of May and had a great getaway.  The Showley family is getting ready for the end of the school year and have been attending art-shows and open-houses for Elizabeth and Jacob to see all of the work they have done during the year.  The kids are very excited for summer!

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Monica and her sister took their mom to a lovely brunch and cooking class which included making personalized tea blends to enjoy at home. The family celebrated Cole’s graduation from SDSU (Monica’s alma mater). Cole graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Pre-Physical Therapy. He will be returning to SDSU in the fall to pursue a Masters in Exercise Physiology.

Kim and Tyler hosted some friends for Mother’s day for a nice meal of brisket on the grill.  They also worked on some home projects including removing the bamboo they had planted a few years ago as part of their backyard renovation.  They plan to replace them with less invasive plants that are easier to maintain and unfortunately had to learn the hard way!
