At the firm…

The CCMI Team is proud to announce that Matt Ryan is now a CFA® charterholder and may begin using the coveted Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. The Chartered Financial Analyst® mark represents a professional designation focused on investment analysis and real-world portfolio management skills. To become a Chartered Financial Analyst professional, a candidate must pass 3 levels of exams and complete a 4-year experience requirement. Over the past three years Matt came into work early, stayed late, and gave up time on the weekends to put in over 1,000 hours of studying to pass all three levels on his first attempt. The CCMI team celebrated in the office with two boxes of donuts from the Donut Bar!

The CCMI team was busy completing employee reviews in August and establishing employee goals for the next twelve months.  We believe employee goals are important for personal and professional growth.  Our team at CCMI is our most important asset and we are thankful for the team that we have here!

Speaking of the CCMI team, we are in the process of interviewing for an Associate/Paraplanner position.  Brian has spent time on phone screens, and the rest of the team was involved with in-person interviews.  We look forward to introducing our newest team member soon!

Matt Showley has officially joined the board of Junior Achievement of San Diego County.  Matt has volunteered with Junior Achievement for the past few years and is very passionate about education, children and promoting financial literacy, which perfectly aligns with JA’s mission. Matt is very excited to begin this next chapter of community involvement after formally stepping down from the board of Empower Charter School where he served as treasurer for 6 years after helping to co-found the school in 2013.

Matt Showley also represented the CCMI Team at the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club’s Holes for Heroes golf tournament, which raised over $100,000 for several local charities benefiting veterans, service members and their families.  This is the 7th year in a row that CCMI has supported the event.

Kim attended various social gatherings throughout the month, starting with a lovely summer social with Encore Partners CPA firm, the annual Women in Business Summer Soiree, and lastly a networking event by the CalCPA organization at Tom Ham’s for their ABC night (Attorneys, Bankers, and CPAs).  Kim had a wonderful time at each event socializing with friends and meeting new people.

On the Homefront

Brian and his family enjoyed their trip to Banff, Jasper, and Yoho National Parks in Canada.  Highlights of the trip included: hiking to the Agnes Lake Tea House and having lunch in the rain, river rafting the chilly waters of the Athabasca river, riding in the snowcoaches (best described as a monster truck bus) out on the Athabasca Glacier, canoeing on Emerald Lake, and hiking to Lake McArthur.  On hiking days, the entire family averaged about ten miles of hiking and all three Matter kids (ages from 7 to 12) did great.  The kids did not want to leave and are already asking when they can go back.  Brian’s family also celebrated their middle child Kai’s 10th birthday at the end of the month.

Monica and family spent a week in Wisconsin. First, they attended a beautiful family wedding in Madison where they also enjoyed exploring downtown including touring the Wisconsin State Capital. Their trip had to include a stop at Lambeau Field in Green Bay where they watched the Packers practice and visited the Packer Hall of Fame. They did a beautiful drive to Door County and stopped for all things cherries. They also found time to go to a Timber Rattlers minor league baseball game and a Friday Night Fish Fry with Mike’s long-time friends.

Matt Ryan went to the Sawdust Art Festival and Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. He and his wife really enjoyed seeing the artwork displayed and the pageant itself. Matt was also able to keep up his summer goal of playing beach volleyball as much as possible. He continues to play at least once a week.

Kim and Tyler took advantage of seeing the Boston Red Sox play in San Diego by attending all three Red Sox/Padres games with friends!  While the Red Sox have not done as well as expected this year, they always enjoy rooting for their home team!

Matt Showley and his family took a 3-day camping trip near Mt. Palomar with two other families.  The kids enjoyed swinging over a lazy river and riding inner-tubes as well as cooking s’mores over the campfire.  Later in the month the Showleys celebrated daughter Elizabeth’s 8th birthday with a party at their home. As the summer is coming to an end, both of the kids have started soccer again and are gearing up for the new school year.  Their parents are ready for a nap!

Katie and Ben had a restful month and spent their free time with their families and pups at the pool. Katie and Ben also celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary and many family birthdays. Katie’s aunt is in town from Tennessee and the family has enjoyed spending time with her while she is here.
