At the firm…

The CCMI Team spent a day in early December planning for the future at our annual business planning meeting. This year the business planning meeting was held at Ilan Lael Conference Center near Julian. Ilan Lael is where artist James Hubbell’s home and studios reside, and we couldn’t think of a better place to think creatively. The team spent the morning planning for the future in the conference center, then after lunch took a tour of the beautiful grounds. We finished the day with a team building activity where we each created a stained-glass light catcher that we could take with us. We look forward to implementing many of the ideas in the next year to continue to improve our services for our clients!

December 23 was Ugly Christmas Sweater Day at CCMI and we enjoyed getting in the holiday spirit.

The CCMI team wrapped up the annual custody audit as part of our compliance program and was pleased to hear that the results were as expected. We take compliance very seriously and are always striving to improve our compliance programs. Additionally the CCMI team gathered for the annual Compliance meeting in December.  CCMI works hard to remain compliant with the ever-changing rules and regulations instituted by the various government institutions overseeing the financial services industry.  The annual meeting is a good update of rules that may have changed during the year and areas to improve upon in the upcoming year for our team.

Matt and Brian continue to meet to further refine the requirements for redoing our website in 2020. We look forward to rolling it out next year.

Through Brian’s Rotary Club, CCMI “adopted” 2 orphans from the Door of Faith Orphanage in Tijuana. The CCMI team went shopping together to make the holidays a little extra special for a young boy and young girl, and the team enjoyed finding the right outfits, shoes, and toys.

Kim attended the Women in Business holiday party which was held at Charlie & Echo, which is an urban winery which produces mostly sparkling wines. Kim enjoyed spending time with the WIB members and learning more about the winemaking process at Charlie & Echo. Kim continues as the Treasurer for Women in Business for the 2019-2020 year.

Matt Ryan attended an all-day Applied Business Strategy Workshop in Santa Monica. The workshop was hosted by Dimensional Fund Advisors. The topics covered included  business analytics, team structure for growing firms, and learning how to better position our firm for the next generation of clients.

Matt Showley has been active with his Vistage group where he has been a member for over a year. The group of business owners meet monthly to discuss and learn from one another, and often have outside speakers present on topics such as effective time management and communication styles.

On the Homefront

Matt Showley and his family stayed home for Christmas after a great trip to Yosemite for Thanksgiving. They are busy preparing for a long-planned home remodel that will begin in 2020.  Matt also is planning to take his daughter Elizabeth skiing for a day in Big Bear during her holiday break.

Brian’s family is enjoying weekends free of sports in December. They were able to visit with family, take a hike up Iron Mountain, and spend time with friends.  Brian enjoyed spending time with family for the holidays, and Nikki and the kids enjoyed a quick trip to Las Vegas to visit with extended family.

Kim’s parents are in town this month visiting from Maine. Kim always lets her mom decorate her Christmas tree because she really enjoys decorating and does an excellent job! They all enjoy spending time together and her parents also feel like the warmer weather is a cherry on top, especially at this time of year.

Monica went on a “girls only trip” with her mom, sister and aunt to visit her other sister living in Seattle, WA. They celebrated her mom’s birthday by visiting the quaint Bavarian-styled village of Leavenworth in the Cascade Mountains. The day included driving through snow, exploring the Nutcracker Museum, shopping for gingerbread and watching the lighting of the town buildings and giant trees. They also found time to visit Funko Headquarters in Everett and ate dinner at Pike Place Market. The Larson family enjoyed spending time with family and friends throughout the holidays.

Matt Ryan and his wife Jess has a busy December preparing for their first Christmas as a married couple. With family and friends, there were many events for them to go to. They also went to a wreath making party and had an absolute blast. The wreath Jess made was immediately hung on their front door upon returning home after the party.

Katie and Ben enjoyed December and decorating their home for the holidays. They went to Little Italy for the annual tree lighting ceremony; while the lighting itself was not the most impressive, they enjoyed walking the busy streets and all of the holiday decorations.Katie’s brother came home from dental school, so they spent as much time with him (and his girlfriend) as possible. They had a lovely holiday and are looking forward to the new year.

Sheila celebrated an early Christmas mid-month in Palm Desert with her husband’s side of the family. The tradition was started a few years ago so that her brother-in-law and sister-in-law could get a better deal on travel, but they’ve all discovered that everything is open and they never have trouble getting restaurant reservations for their 10-member group! Anastasia loved spending time with her great grandmother (age 96), grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins. While Sheila, John and Anastasia spent Christmas in San Diego with her husband’s high school friends and their families, they are looking forward to be traveling to Massachusetts to celebrate the New Year with Sheila’s family.
