At the firm…

The CCMI team celebrated the holidays in January at our Annual Holiday Dinner.  Team members and their spouses enjoyed dinner at Eddie V’s in Seaport Village.  The night was a great opportunity to enjoy time together socially and celebrate all the successes of the firm in 2019.  There were lots of laughs and everyone had a great time!

The first month of the year is always very busy!  The team is working hard on updating distribution amounts that may have changed from the prior year,  listening to analyst calls, and preparing all compliance related items for 2020.

Brian and Matt have been working hard on updating the ADV that will be filed in February.  This is an annual process for the firm and the most recent copy will be sent to all of our clients when available.

Matt Showley began working as a volunteer for the Junior Achievement Company Program where he will be in a high school classroom one hour a week for 13 weeks teaching students about entrepreneurship and the various challenges and opportunities available to business owners.  The program culminates with the students creating their own business idea and presenting their business plans to Junior Achievement.

Kim attended a 2-day, intensive training held by acclaimed speaker and author Amy Florian and her husband Ken on the topic of supporting clients in transition.  Kim learned how to better support clients who are going through illness, death, job loss, retirement or other major transitions.  She obtained valuable tools, skills, resources and protocols to share with the team, which will help better serve our clients.

Kim went to her monthly Women in Business dinner event where she heard Kathi Burns speak about organizing your home for the new year and new decade!  She learned a couple tips on better organization such as keeping a donation bin in your bedroom and hallway closets for items that are no longer needed.  Kim continues her role as the Treasurer of Women In Business.

Matt Ryan helped prepare our systems for our scheduled rebalancing period in February.  Every quarter, Matt works to make sure cash needs are updated, required minimum distributions are set aside, and our trading system is up to date with all our client requests throughout the quarter.

On the home front….

Brian and Nikki are off enjoying their trip to New Zealand.  Plans for the trip included hiking the Milford Track, whitewater rafting, kayaking to a secluded beach, and many other adventurous activities.  A full report will be included in February’s Out and About!

Matt Showley and his family spent a long weekend in Mammoth skiing with friends.  The kids continue to improve on the slopes and Matt and Alex always enjoy their time in the mountains.

Matt Ryan’s good friends purchased their first home and immediately started renovations.  He spent a few weekends in January helping with demolition.  He and his friends blasted music while destroying the kitchen and a wall to the living room.  They also took out the entire home’s carpet and tile.

Matt Ryan is also continuing to help out the Saint Augustine High School Freshman basketball team as an assistant coach.  The freshman team is undefeated in their league with a total record on the season of 13 – 4.  He is enjoying coaching and mentoring the young men on the team.

Kim’s parents have been in town visiting from Maine as they have been doing each winter.  While spending a weekend in Palm Springs, Kim’s sister Kathy flew in from Maine to surprise them.  It was a great surprise and they enjoyed their time all together as it is rare to have the whole family in one location!

Katie had a busy January.  She coached at tournaments in Del Mar and Palm Springs, and she traveled to Philadelphia for US Lacrosse’s LaxCon, which is a lacrosse conference that educates coaches, players, and officials on concepts, drills, philosophies, and game theories.  She was able to complete her next step of US Lacrosse’s coaching certification program and is now eligible for the final level 3 certification courses.  Now that club lacrosse has officially ended, Katie and Ben are gearing up for the high school season and are excited to get started.

Monica, Mike and Alex went to Charleston, SC this month for the wedding of Alex’s best friend since kindergarten.  They had fun taking a carriage ride and a self-guided walking tour around the “Holy City.”  After a weekend in Charleston, Monica and Mike drove to Asheville, NC to visit Mike’s aunt and uncle.  They got to enjoy the Blue Ridge mountains with snow and a tour of the Biltmore Estate.  Monica took a cookie decorating class and enjoyed learning how to work with royal icing. She made 7 adorable Valentine’s Day cookies for her family.

Sheila, John, and Anastasia spent the New Year in Massachusetts with her parents.  Anastasia got to see friends and her many cousins in the Boston area.  They enjoyed relatively good weather (no snow storms!) and the trip was complete with a visit to a local farm to have cider donuts.  They were happy to return to the San Diego weather, though, and have been enjoying all the activities that San Diego has to offer.  On the 25th, Sheila took Anastasia to the Cat Show at the Del Mar fairgrounds.  However, there wasn’t enough action for this four-year-old, as she said, “Mommy, I thought this was a show!”
