At the firm…

All four CCMI advisors attended the 3-day Schwab IMPACT conference in San Diego in early November.

Particularly in the areas of investment strategy and operational best practices, we came away with validation of the current systems, strategies and processes that are already in place for our clients.

Since the Schwab conference, Matt Showley along with Matt Ryan have been exploring the further use of one of our investment research charting tools. CCMI has used this tool for research and analysis for quite some time but there are additional features now available that the team is learning how to use. While at conferences, we are always looking at ways to improve our services and get the most out of the technology we use.

The CCMI team enjoyed celebrating Kim at a lunch away from the office eating ramen at Underbelly followed by ice cream at Salt and Straw.  Happy birthday month Kim!

Kim and Sheila attended the quarterly Financial Planning Association’s Women’s Initiative event which included a panel discussion of various women-led advisory firms. They enjoyed getting together with other women in the industry to network, share ideas and inspire each other.

Kim attended the Women United annual investment meeting where she heard pitches from various organizations and voted on how funds will be invested. As a new member, Kim learned more about the impact the organization makes in helping women and children in our community.

Kim had various other events throughout the month including a Bryant University alumni event in La Jolla, her Women in Business Board meeting and book club, her final outing with her Girls Rising little sister, and a day at the races with her LEAD Impact 2019 class.

Matt Showley attended his first board meeting for Junior Achievement of San Diego. Matt is planning to join the Programming subcommittee which helps design and operate the various modules that are available to students throughout the county that participate in JA’s BizTown, Finance Park, Stock Market Challenge and other educational programs.

Brian and Matt Showley have been working with our portfolio reporting software to make the billing process more efficient.  We look forward to moving from a multi-hour process to clicking a button and having everything done at once!

Brian, Sheila and Matt Ryan have been working with our outside auditor on completing our annual custody compliance audit.  We look forward to having the custody audit wrapped up in December.

On the Homefront

Kim and Tyler plan to host Thanksgiving with their friends and always include others who may not have family in the area. This year, it will be a full house with good food, great company and as always, a fun time! Kim and Tyler also celebrated birthdays in November; while Kim’s was a more relaxing occasion, Tyler celebrated his December birthday early with lots of friends!

Matt Ryan and his wife took a vacation to Kona, Hawaii. They stayed on the Kona side of the island while they took day trips to different beaches to snorkel and enjoy the sun. Their favorite experiences were snorkeling at night with the manta rays which put them in the water inches away from the massive creatures and visiting 3 very different coffee farms to learn how Kona coffee is made while taste testing everything they could get their hands on.

Matt Showley spent a Saturday with several former teammates playing volleyball for the first time in many years. It was a lot of fun getting back on the court, but Matt learned that his mind is a bit younger than his body when it comes to jumping high and hitting hard these days.  Ice-packs were in store for Sunday.

For the Thanksgiving holiday, Matt Showley and his family will be joining his in-laws and they will be driving to Yosemite for several days of hiking, activities with the kids, and sightseeing. They are looking forward to their first restaurant-style Thanksgiving where no one needs to do the dishes!

Brian finished up coaching two soccer teams in Novembers.  Brian’s son Koa’s (age 7) team, Green Lightning, had a fantastic year with only one loss.

Brian’s son Kai’s (age 10) team, The Savage Mustachios, also had a great year and lost in overtime in the championship game on a last second goal.  While Brian didn’t coach his daughter Emma’s (age 12) team this year, Emma had another strong season and will continue to play soccer on her division’s All Star team.  Overall, another successful soccer season!

The Matter family also enjoyed a quick trip up to Six Flags Magic Mountain in November.  The family enjoyed short lines and lots of rollercoasters.  Brian and Nikki figured out that as they age they aren’t adjusting to the loops, twists and turns of the rollercoasters quite as easily as they did when they were younger!

November gave Monica a chance to catch up with friends by visiting a new bistro for tea, attending Little Italy’s Farmers Market, watching college football at a favorite restaurant and celebrating Friendsgiving. She and her family will spend Thanksgiving next door at her Mom’s house. Being close comes in handy when you want leftovers! The long weekend will also give Monica a chance to start Christmas shopping, baking and decorating.

Sheila went with her daughter Anastasia and husband John to Frozen 2 with two other families on opening weekend and all enjoyed themselves despite the dads’ aversion to musicals! For Thanksgiving, Sheila, John and Anastasia will go to Palm Desert to spend time with John’s parents and grandmother. For the past couple of years now they have enjoyed their meal at a nearby hotel with a full spread, a band playing, and a kids area to entertain Anastasia. They also plan to squeeze in some Black Friday shopping before returning to San Diego.

November was a quiet month for Katie and Ben. They spent their weekends spending time with family and friends. Katie finished scheduling the upcoming high school lacrosse season and has been slowly filling spots on her coaching staff. Ben, her JV coach, has been asked to coach another season. This has been an ongoing joke between the two of them. Katie is looking forward to the long weekend because one of her best friends is flying in from D.C. and she is planning on spending a lot of time with her.
