At the firm…

The CCMI team took part of the day in early October for a team-building outing. The team sailed out of the San Diego Harbor past Point Loma.  We had perfect weather and a nice breeze to spend some quality time together away from the office environment.  A few team members even cranked the sails as we maneuvered out to sea and back into the bay on a windy day.

Brian recently joined the Entrepreneurs’ Organization which is a peer-to-peer learning and networking group.  He looks forward to the learning opportunities presented by the organization.

Brian attended the National Association for Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) conference in Chicago in early October.  He attended many continuing education courses which covered topics including estate planning, retirement planning, tax planning and many more.

Brian assisted LEAD San Diego’s IMPACT program in selecting the non-profits that the Leadership Action Teams will be assisting via a pro bono project.  Brian, Matt and Kim are all graduates of LEAD’s IMPACT program.

Brian also participated in the Coryell Memorial Golf Tournament which supports a local Boys and Girls Club.  The course was tough as there were heavy Santa Ana winds, but everyone enjoyed the fun golf outing.

Matt Showley and Kim attended Encore Partners’ Evening of Excellence which was a networking event hosted by a local CPA firm.  They enjoyed mingling with others and meeting new people.

Matt Ryan attended the CFA Society of San Diego’s Charter Ceremony where he was awarded with his CFA Charterholder certificate. The event was held at the Farmer & The Seahorse in Torrey Pines and was a well-attended event.  There was a total of 12 new San Diego Charterholders at the event receiving their certificates.

Brian, Monica and their families supported the Lightbridge Hospice Community Foundation 5k Run/Walk event.  Lightbridge Hospice is a wonderful resource for families in the local community when needing hospice services.  Brian and Monica even got to spend a little time with CCMI founders Bob and Peg Eddy who were volunteering at the event.

This month, Kim’s Women in Business dinner event was a culinary experience with Olivewood Garden and Learning Center’s Kitchenistas.  These ladies, who graduated from one of the many programs offered at Olivewood in National City, prepared a wonderful meal for the event!  Kim assisted Olivewood through her LEAD program last year and thought it would be a great idea to connect them with Women in Business for this annual culinary event.

Kim attended various other events throughout the month including the San Diego Taxpayers’ Association Governance subcommittee meeting where they discussed the impacts of the SOS (Safeguard our San Diego Countryside) initiative.

Kim was invited to participate in a United Technologies/Collins Aerospace charity event held by the Finance Women’s forum at Cyclebar.  Kim worked at United Technologies prior to joining CCMI and she enjoys staying in touch. She was happy to be invited back for this charity event.

On the Homefront

Monica and friends flew to Tuscaloosa for a long weekend to attend the University of Alabama’s homecoming football game.  Her friend’s son is an equipment manager for the team, so besides providing great game seats, he was able to give them a behind the scenes tour of the Crimson Tide’s facilities.  They enjoyed the team’s win and all the festivities of a college town.

Katie and Ben enjoyed attending Oktoberfest with Katie’s mom in downtown La Mesa.  Their favorite food of the night was Halloween-themed ice cream and funnel cake.  Katie and Ben also went to a send-off gathering for a dear friend who is moving to Lincoln, Nebraska for a professional opportunity.  Also, Katie coached her lacrosse team at a tournament in Irvine and the team performed very well.

Matt Ryan and his wife had a date night on Sunset Cliffs.  They ordered a Pizza Port pizza to go and enjoyed eating it on the cliffs while watching the sun set over the ocean.  It was a clear night and they were able to sit in their beach chairs and enjoy the view.  They capped off their date by going to an improv comedy show at the National Comedy Theater where they were both impressed at how quick the comedians could react to ideas from the audience.

Matt Showley and his wife, Alex, spent a long weekend in San Francisco for a belated anniversary trip.  They enjoyed several great restaurants on their “dining weekend” and they finally took a cruise out to Alcatraz to tour the island.  On their final day they stumbled upon several old ships and a maritime museum that was great to explore.  When they returned home they told the kids that they were on a pirate ship!

Brian’s wife Nikki joined him at the NAPFA Conference in Chicago.  When the conference ended they enjoyed Chicago’s riverfront architecture tour, walking through the city, eating at a number of great restaurants, and catching the musical Hamilton.  Outside of the quick trip to Chicago, the weekends have been full of three soccer games each weekend.

Sheila, her husband John, and daughter Anastasia went to the Tanaka Farms pumpkin patch in Irvine, California on a beautiful Saturday in October where they walked through a corn maze, took a wagon ride, and fed animals in the Barnyard Educational Exhibit.  They then went to pick up ribs to bring to John’s grandmother in Downey and spent the afternoon with her.  She is 96 and still going strong!

Kim and Tyler celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary with a staycation in downtown San Diego.  They enjoyed being tourists in their own town and trying some new restaurants downtown and in Little Italy.  They also spent the rest of the month celebrating various occasions like a neighborhood barbecue and a friend’s baby shower.
