At the firm…

Matt and Brian are currently working with architects on plans for the CCMI office renovations later this year.  We will be excited to share the progress as the renovations take shape.

For the 7th consecutive year, CCMI supported the Holes for Heroes golf tournament put on by Brian’s San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary club.  The tournament is a unique opportunity for CCMI to say “thank you” to our servicemen and women throughout the 18 holes of golf.  The golf tournament raised over $150,000 which goes to several military assistance programs and charities.

Brian, Matt, Monica and their families attended the LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation 5k Run/Walk which supports LightBridge Hospice. The team enjoyed the event course at Liberty Station and supporting an organization that helps many find peace in a challenging time in their life.

Matt Showley traveled to Austin, TX for a two-day conference on investment strategies.  Topics included managing portfolio volatility and how to structure portfolios to sustain withdrawals during turbulent markets.

Matt Showley lead a successful Summer Social for the Estate Planning Council of San Diego where he serves as Vice President.  The event was held at LJ Crafted Wines in La Jolla and it had a fantastic turnout.

Brian attended the NAPFA San Diego Chapter meeting where he listened to speakers present about long-term care insurance and college planning.

After receiving the news of passing Level 3 of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam, Matt Ryan attended a CFA social mixer in North Park. He looks forward to attending more events and seminars put on by the CFA Society of San Diego.

Kim attended her first meeting with LEAD San Diego.  The 2019 class, of over 50 members, met at the Girls Scout Headquarters in Balboa park and listened to several speakers about San Diego on subjects such as the economy, the military and demographics.  The day was informational and she also met and had the opportunity to get to know some of her classmates.

Kim attended an all-day Dimensional Funds Advisors Applied Investments Workshop in Santa Monica. She listened to presentations focusing on strategic implementation of investment principles, portfolio design and efficient trading strategies.

The CCMI team enjoyed celebrating Matt Ryan’s birthday together at Shogun.  The team was able to surprise Matt by having his fiancé Jess join them for lunch.

On the home front…

Brian’s family is busy with soccer as Emma (11), Kai (9) and Koa (6) are all playing soccer (and Brian is coaching two of the teams).  Each Matter child has two practices a week and one game on the weekend, which means they have been spending a lot of time at the soccer field.  They are having a lot of fun and improving their skills every week.

Matt Showley and his family have been busy with their kids’ soccer games each weekend, both Elizabeth and Jacob are having a great time despite the early wake-ups on Saturday mornings.  Elizabeth also began taking art classes taught in Spanish, which she really enjoys.  Matt and Alex are busy planning a few long weekend trips later in the fall after spending most of the summer at home.

Matt Ryan took a weekend trip to Kernville, for a white-water rafting trip down the Kern river. He went with his fiancé Jess and another recently engaged couple. They had a blast rafting over class 3 and 4 rapids. They stopped off for a break and were able to jump off a few large rocks into the river. It was a great experience with great friends.

Kim and Tyler took 2 trips to visit family in the month of September.  The first was to visit Kim’s family and friends in Maine.  Kim also surprised Tyler by arranging a surprise visit from his childhood best friend and his family, who drove up from Connecticut.  The second trip was to San Francisco where they spent time with Tyler’s dad who currently resides in Melbourne, Australia.  They had a blast on both trips and were very happy to spend some much-needed time with family and friends.

Katie and Ben have spent their Saturdays watching the Aztec football games and they loved watching the win over a ranked ASU. They also went to a surprise 75th birthday party for a family friend at the AubreyRose Tea Room in La Mesa and they had a wonderful time! Katie and Ben are enjoying their nights at home with no lacrosse practices, but they are starting to get the “coaching-itch” again!

After losing a dear friend, Monica turned to the support and love of her family, friends and co-workers. Monica was able to celebrate two birthdays at the end of the month: one with a cruise around San Diego Bay and the other with a pizza party. Monica has continued her love of making birthday cakes – this time it was Snoopy and Woodstock for her sister’s birthday.
